An online foreclosure site is listing our house as a foreclosure, what should I do?
I’ll republish the entire question now:
“We just refinanced. The lender has made a horrible mistake. When they gave us the new loan, they must have done something with the old loan and I just learned that a trustee for our Mortgage Company filed on 5/12/2008. on the loan that we just paid off. This is so embarrassing, as we paid that loan off and have done a consolidated loan of all our debts on our new mortgage. Again, the mortgage preforeclosure is on our old loan. Both the new loan and the old loan are with the same mortgage company. Our credit tops out a few points below 800. The only reason that I found out about this preforeclosure is that someone came to my house this evening. I had been noticing people pointing, as they drove by in their cars. Also, I have been getting debt assistance phone calls. Of course, I told them that we did not have a debt problem., because we don’t No one has sent us any paperwork, but the people who stopped by this evening directed me to a website, Realty Trac. I couldn’t believe my eyes. The status is showing NOD We have a reference number for our preforeclosed loan. I am concerned about what this can do to our credit in the long run. What should I do? “
My bet is one of your neighbors is in foreclosure and those folks at Realty Trac got some numbers transposed. I’ve been in the mortgage game for 16 years, and refinances that payoff existing mortgages almost never have satisfaction issues. I’ve actually never heard of “same lender to same lender” refinance not getting the appropriate paperwork to the county to record the satisfaction on the paid in full mortgage.
So, it’s nothing to get too concerned about…just call your lender and give them the old loan number and ask if they filed a foreclosure on that loan. You’ll find out they didn’t.
No worries…even if they did make a mistake…they’ll fix it fast. They don’t want another foreclosure on the books!
Good Luck!
