ABN AMRO Mortgage Group Review

Author: Rob K. Blake | Date: September 4, 2008 | Filed In: Mortgage Company

ABN AMRO had a mortgage division which in the US was owned by LaSalle Bank Corp. who’s assets were then bought by Bank of America in October of 2007. It’s unclear if the mortgage division (called ABN-AMRO Mortgage Group, Inc.) was part of the sale. We located a website, three phone numbers, and quite a few complaints for ABN-AMRO Mortgage Group, Inc.

ABN AMRO Mortgage Group Review

I my opinion any company getting fined by the government for false claim on federally insured home loans is a company to avoid. Just over two year ago, ABN AMRO received a $16.9 million fine by HUD and the US Attorney General.

IHT.com on 1/4/2006 reported,

“U.S. officials on Wednesday fined the Dutch bank ABN AMRO’s U.S. mortgage division $16.9 million, settling charges that the company made false claims on federally insured home loans…

The agreement settles allegations that ABN AMRO Mortgage made false certifications to the U.S. housing authorities connected with more than 28,000 federally insured mortgages. The government said 229 of those mortgages led to defaults and resulted in losses to the housing agency of $6.25 million.”

BBB Activity on ABN AMRO Mortgage Group

”Customers allege that per requirements of their mortgage loan agreements, they must maintain certain insurance policies. However, most complainants allege they continually receive notices that their regular insurance has lapsed, and the company has assigned another policy. Some complainants report that fees charged for the insurance policies obtained by the company are considerably higher than their regular insurance provider. Others allege after sending proof of coverage they experience difficulty obtaining refunds for the insurance obtained by the company. A few customers allege that payments are misapplied or complain of overpayments.

The company generally responds to complaints by reviewing accounts, making adjustments, apologizing for errors, canceling policies obtained on the client’s behalf upon receipt of proof of coverage, and issuing refunds. In some cases, the company advised that the client was responsible for the amount of insurance charged because they provided no evidence of insurance coverage.”

The BBB also listed InterFirst Wholesale Mortgage Lending as a DBA.
