Carrington Mortgage Services LLC Bogus Email Downloads Virus

Carrington Mortgage Services LLC is being used by a bogus email to spread a virus when the attachment is downloaded. If you get such and email, know the sender of this spam is not Carrington Mortgage Services LLC and do not download the attachment.
The spammers ruse works like this…
They send out an email from Carringotn Mortgage Services which says “thank you, we received your payment of $8,560″ or some such nonsense hoping to arouse curiosity. They then say to read the invoice confirmation of the payment, download the attachment.
If you download the attachment a virus or malware is loaded on to your computer. The untold damage a malware or virus can do is well documented. Malware can do everything from hijack your computer using it to send spam to everyone in your own email program to more sinister applications like harvesting your passwords to your bank accounts and other private information.
Needless to say, it’s a identity thief’s holy grail…and the information it garners could be used to commit mortgage fraud in your name….so don’t fall for it.
Good Luck

Mr. Robert Blake,
Thank you for publishing the e-mail virus explination on your website. I received this e-mail yesterday in Connecticut. I recognized it as a scam, my security software blocked the attachment. In any case they would be hard pressed to get $8,000 from our checking account. It is unfortunate this has happened to your company.
