Universal American Mortgage Review

Universal American Mortgage is like all other wholly owned mortgage divisions of parent home builder corporations…not the best deal in town. Home builder mortgage operations in general offer the worst rates, but ply customers with “incentives” that are predicated on using the in-house mortgage lender. Any mortgage originator needing such coercive tactics to obtain business would not stay in business very long without them.

However, in the current down turn, home builders don’t have the leverage they once did to force customers into using their own mortgage company. So be sure to tell your sales person, you’ll be glad to take the incentives, but “No Thanks” on using your lender. And by the way, if they pull back the incentives, report them to HUD and your State Attorney General’s Office…that is supposed to be illegal.
