Lighthouses For Sale - Government Dumping Connecticut Landmark for $1!

A historic landmark, a working lighthouse for sale for $1? Sounds like a joke, but sadly it is true. The government is dumping a working lighthouses to avoid the real estate and maintenance expenses.
Saybrook Lighthouse For Sale
The Saybrook lighthouse also known as the Saybrook Breakwater Light is currently for sale for single greenback. This sale is authorized by the National Historic Lighthouse Preservation Act of 2000 which includes the mechanism to turn over old Coast Guard lighthouses out of federal hands and into the hands of private enterprises. Currently there are about 200 lighthouses for sale around the US.
However don’t get too excited…the only private enterprises allowed to own historic real estate under the Act are government agencies like cities or towns and nonprofit organizations. The eventual owner must also demonstrate the resources to maintain the working lighthouse and keep as a working lighthouse and open to the public as well.
Is the Federal Government so broke they can’t maintain their own historic real estate?
What’s next…the Washington Monument?
Shameful
If you have these resources here’s a link to learn how to apply to own very own lighthouse. Application are open until August 27.
Good Luck!
