TCF Bank, and affiliate of TCF Financial Corporation, is headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota with additional branches in Illinois, Michigan, Colorado, Wisconsin, Indiana, Arizona and South Dakota. They are a mortgage lender as well as providing retail banking products.

Their website is very well done. It is clean and easy to understand. They have a special servicing fee schedule which describes certain fees they charge for a subordination or modification. I also read on there they do not charge a payoff fee if you order it personally but if a title company or mortgage company orders it, a fee is charged.

Consumer Financial Protection Bureau numbers say that in 2011 they took in almost $1.9 billion in mortgage applications. Most of those were refinance applications. They are listed in the NMLS as TCF National Bank and also on the BBB which you can read below.

According to the BBB as of 6/13, they have “1028 complaints closed with BBB in last 3 years | 312 closed in last 12 months” with an A rating. this rating is for their headquarters and is for the entire bank not just the mortgage department.
