Amerisave Mortgage Review
Amerisave Mortgage is one of the largest mortgage lenders in the United States. They do not have branches but originate mortgages in every state through their website and outside loan consultants. They are headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia.

Amerisave is proud of being part of the “Upfront Mortgage Lenders” network set up by Jack M. Guttentag, a Wharton Professor who calls himself, “The Mortgage Professor”. The idea behind the Upfront Mortgage Lenders moniker to add transparency to the costs and pricing of doing a mortgage which is an excellent goal and I commend him for his efforts in this arena.
With that said, I am suspect that any system designed to inform mortgage consumer in a more diligent manner really starts with a more educated population of mortgage consumers.
For example, after the mortgage meltdown a few years back, the government decided part of the problem was consumer did not understand what they were reading when it came to Good Faith Estimate and Truth-in-Lending disclosures. So they sought to revamp the disclosure forms to better show the buying public what the costs and terms of their mortgage truly were.
The former two, one page forms expanded into two four page forms and after testing…
Consumers were MORE confused than before!
So, if you don't know what you are looking at or looking for when it comes to mortgage terms, rates, and costs…no amount of transparency will help you. You simply don't know what you don't know.
It's a catch-22.
The under-educated mortgage consumer population is the real problem. Folks who don't have a more sophisticated understanding of mortgage terms and practices are ripe targets for the unscrupulous who would seek to take advantage….and after this last debacle where we saw there was no shortage of folks willing to do just that.
I'm glad the Mortgage Professor and Amerisave are dedicated to this idea, but in practically it may only benefit those who are very well schooled in the ways of the mortgage industry already.

Wow. I don’t know what to think. Reviews are all over the place. Pretty confusing. Now what?
I can tell you that all of the complaints I have read are accurate. Wish I had read them before applying. After three months of back and forth, I gave up wasting my time with these folks. They rarely answer email and only twice (out of likely 20 tries) could I get somebody on the phone. The teaser rate draws you in, then they string you along until they can figure out a way to increase the rate or the fees charged. Every week or so I was told that settlement was close and they just needed me to fill out one more form or resubmit documents that I had already sent. No one in this business has a perfect record of no complaints, but these folks have to be at the bottom of the list. It may be possible to actually get a mortgage on favorable terms from this company, but the evidence does not support that.
Dave…sorry to hear about your bad experience.
Who were you working with at Amerisave? Obviously not me.
Loans are extremely tough to get through with all the changes that have bombarded all of us in the industry.
Here’s a good website to know what’s really going on out there. http://www.mortgagenewsdaily.com
We have 136 complaints on the BBB and we’ve completed 112,000 loans since Amerisave began. That’s .0012142% or 1 complaint per 1,000 loans.
I take my business seriously and complaints even more seriously. Please let everybody here know if you were able to get your loan through somewhere else.
That’s one thing i’ve noticed on this site. People complain but never say that they were able to get their loan complete anywhere else.
Again I apologize for the bad experience with us. Best of luck to you.
