David Kellermann, the acting Chief Financial Officer of Freddie Mac, was found dead, the apparent victim of suicide.

Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) put out a press release saying,

“We at FHFA are very saddened by the death of David Kellermann. For many years, we have known David as a person of the utmost ethical standards who was hardworking and knowledgeable in his field. As the Acting Chief Financial Officer of Freddie Mac during particularly challenging times, David was an inspiration to his staff and many others who were privileged to work with him. We extend our condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.”

David Kellermann - Dead at 41

The Fairfax County, Virginia, Police say there were signs of foul play and Mr. Kellermann’s wife reported a suicide. Until autopsy, no cause of death will be official.

According to the Freddie Mac website, Mr. Kellermann was made the acting CFO in September after the government takeover and reports directly to the new CEO John Koskinen. (I wrote a scathing post on his appointment to this top job called “Mortgage Interest Rates Hit Bottom Says Freddie Mac CEO“)

David Kellermann’s Bio

The Freddie Mac website provided a bio which read in part,

“Kellermann has been with Freddie Mac for more than 16 years. He began as a financial analyst/auditor in 1992, worked for several years in the company’s securities sales and trading unit, and has served in a variety of positions in the company’s capital markets division, most recently serving as vice president strategy execution and integration and the Investments and Capital Markets division controller.

He holds a M.S. in Finance from George Washington University and a B.S. in Political Science and Accounting from the University of Michigan. Kellermann is a volunteer board member of the D.C. Coalition for the Homeless.”

The mortgage crisis claims another victim. I wrote on the first suicide victim of the foreclosure crisis in a post called “Foreclosure Suicide - Shame of Foreclosure Claims a Life” back in July of 2008.

Sad…very sad.

Good Luck!
