According to their website, “You may be able to achieve several goals with a mortgage refinance. If you have questions about the mortgage refinance process, the benefits you might realize, or your specific situation, M&T can help. By refinancing with M&T you may be able to:

Avoid Future Increases In Your Adjustable Rate Mortgage Payment
Consolidate Your Monthly Bills
Obtain Cash For Other Needs
Reduce Your Mortgage Payment Or Remaining Term Of Your Loan”

They also have a link for mortgage servicing transfers. So, if your mortgage was transferred from Bayview or Dovenmuehle, you can get more information on that transfer. In a press release in April of 2013, Fannie Mae gave them three out of five stars in their STAR Program for servicers. This measures things like customer service and foreclosure prevention. No servicer got five out of five stars if that puts it a little more in perspective.

They announced in September 2012 a merger with Hudson City Savings Bank. However, on April 12th 2013 an announcement was released saying “they expect additional time will be required to obtain a regulatory determination on the applications necessary to complete their proposed merger”.

Consumer Financial Protection Bureau data has them taking in almost $6 billion in mortgage applications in 2011.

Complaints and Ratings

BBB says “425 complaints closed with BBB in last 3 years | 175 closed in last 12 months” with an A+ rating. This rating is for the bank as a whole and not just the mortgage division. It is a review for their headquarters as of 4/13.

Now it’s your turn. If you have a personal experience with this bank’s mortgage division whether that be the origination or servicing departments, the comment section is right below. Tell us and others about their mortgage rates and customer service. If there were problems or things went great. Be sure to leave a detailed and informative account of your experience…one that could help another person who reads it not just a rant.

Thanks!
